'Family' under Canadian immigration law has a very specific meaning. Generally 'family' means husbands, wives, dependent children, mothers, fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers.
'Family' under the terms of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) also includes common law spouses and same sex spouses.
