This section on Visas deals with temporary visas such as a visa to study in Canada (a Study Permit), a visa to work in Canada (a Work Permit, and a visa to visit Canada (a Visitor Permit).
Temporary visas, by definition, are time limited and expire unless renewed. Many of these visas can be renewed from inside Canada and the applicant does not have to leave Canada when seeking renewal.
